Les Darlow was born in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1961 and trained as a technical and scientific illustrator. He has now freed himself from the technical preciseness of photo realistic painting and paints expressively and creatively, producing paintings that are based on feeling, light, energy and movement. Les' specialist area is soft pastels although he paints using watercolours, oils and acrylics and mixed media. His love and passion for weather within his landscapes is so apparent that the Royal Meteorology Society asked him recently to write an article for its newsletter. This fascination with weather has even taken Les to the skies with Captain Dave Watkins to better understand clouds. He has read countless books on meteorology so his clouds are full of energy and movement. His abilities as an artist, tutor and demonstrator have helped him travel the length of the UK and into Europe to teach his students his unique techniques in pastel. Les is an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America.
